A Hotel with my Name

A Hotel with my Name

This evening presents poetry readings by Cecilia Pavón and Radna Fabias alongside Nanne Timmer. During the programme, both poets rooted in the singularity of their writings present a sequence of readings.

Cecilia will interpret in our theatre a constellation of poems and images spanning from her early work from the 1990s to her most recent poems. Her literary practice opens an interior space of reflection in reciprocity with ludic, pop, and metaphysical voices, dislocating the everyday’s proximity to life. The reading also encompasses the presence of Belleza y Felicidad in her life and her collaboration and friendship with artist Fernanda Laguna. This is the first time Pavón presents her work in Amsterdam.

In the spirit of Pavón’s invitation, Radna will be reading a sequence of poems from her book Habitus and recent pieces that trace her ongoing interests, fascinations and speculative uncoverings.

A segment of the programme is grounded in translation: Nanne works through Cecilia’s poetry, while Cecilia inhabits Nanne’s voice. Both artists share mutual backgrounds as poets and translators. The evening becomes a site of collaboration: by entrusting their poems to one another, they will open up their process of translation as friendship: suspended between affection and obsession, appropriation and poetic contagiousness.

In parallel, Nanne re-translates a piece of Radna’s from Habitus, recently translated to Spanish and published in Argentina. This act of re-translation vindicates a wounded language, seeking through translation a restorative and critical gaze on the hybrid and diasporic traces of Spanish as a colonial tongue. The poem as a cultural fabric, resists local adaptation and gestures toward ethical, political, and aesthetic alternatives.

A Hotel With My Name is an evening part of our Transatlantic Voices series. Through workshops, readings, and events, the project seeks to amplify female and queer perspectives of contemporary Latin American authors, opening up a space for resonance and resistance.
