An Evening with Nat Raha & Lisa Jay Jeschke

Join us at Perdu for an evening of readings by Nat Raha and Lisa Jay Jeschke.

Nat Raha’s latest poetic work, apparitions (nines), was published in the autumn of 2024 by Nightboat in New York, and has received praise from CAConrad, Fred Moten, Bhanu Kapil and m. nourbeSe philip for its formal daring. Raha’s visit to the Netherlands is in celebration of Trans-Femme Futures, a book co-authored with Mijke van der Drift, and her reading follows an event at the Universiteit van Amsterdam.

Left Freedom, Lisa Jay Jeschke’s most recent book of poetry, was published by the London-based small-press Critical Documents, and gathers six poems from a larger sequence in German under the working title of Beschreibung der FDP (Description of the Free Democratic Party). A poem from Left Freedom appeared in the second edition of Perdu’s multilingual magazine, Mop Mop.

Dr Nat Raha is a poet, and Lecturer in Fine Art Critical Studies at the Glasgow School of Art. Her poetry is of an experimental queer lyric, attending to hirstories of struggle and resistance to racial capitalism, through de/re/materialising sound, form and syntax, on the page and in performance.

Her books of poetry include apparitions (nines) (Nightboat Books, 2024), of sirens, body & faultlines (Boiler House Press, 2018), and countersonnets (Contraband Books, 2013). Nat’s work is anthologised in 100 Queer Poems and We Want It All: An Anthology of Radical Trans Poetics. Her poetry has been translated in numerous languages. Performance work includes epistolary (on carceral islands), co-commissioned by Edinburgh Art Festival, Scotland and TULCA Festival of Visual Arts, Galway, Ireland, 2023.

With Mijke van der Drift, Nat is co-author of Trans Femme Futures: Abolitionist Ethics for Transfeminist Worlds (Pluto Press, 2024), and the article ‘“They would plant the rose garden themselves”: Femmeness, Complicity, Solidarity’, published in Social Text.
