Alterlife: Sewage and Mud

Join us for an event with presentations on Thursday, 27 February at 20:00 (doors open 19:30), at Ventilator Cinema (OT301), with artists Alina Schmuch, Cocky Eek, and noiserr.
When we think about sewage and mud, we think about darkness, the underworld, and sticky things. But this time, we want you to think about infrastructure and sensing, different ways of feeling the world around us, and looking into things that are obscured, hidden, abject. On Thursday 27 February, artist Alina Schmuch, Sonic Acts and Rupert (Vilnius) ALTERLIFE resident, will present Bathroom Studies, a film about sewage robots and bathrooms, after which we will engage in a conversation about her ongoing research at the intersection of water infrastructures and the human body.
With the body as the central theme of this event’s programme, educator and spatial designer Cocky Eek’s contribution will guide us into the Alterlife with a nourishing somatic exercise, after which she will discuss her ongoing thoughts about fieldwork and mud-sensing. We will end the evening with thereminoise, a fantastic performance by noiserr aka Martina Raponi, who uses the theremin to explore the potential of body movement sounding space, thus expressing concepts with effects.
Schedule:
19:30 Doors open
20:00 Cocky Eek, collective somatic exercise and interview
20:40 Alina Schmuch, film screening and discussion
21:40 noiserr, thereminoise, performance and conversation
This event combines several of our recent projects: the ALTERLIFE residency with Alina Schmuch at W139, and the launch of our sound-themed 300-page magazine Ecoes #7, which features contributions from the artists contributing to this event’s program. The magazine will be available for purchase at Ventilator Cinema.
