Alias Julián (Guillermo España, 2024) + Q&A

Guillermo España | 2024 | NL | 45’ | EN subtitles
Alias Julián follows the life of Jesús Efraín Espinoza, an Argentine refugee and former member of the PRT (People's Revolutionary Party) guerrilla who has lived in Amsterdam since 1978. The documentary not only explores his personal story, but also broader themes such as truth and memory, democracy, mental health, ageing, migration and long-term exile. As the narrative progresses, it challenges the viewer to question what is real and what is not. Through contradictory testimonies and Espinoza’s own words, it becomes uncertain what is made up and what is genuine, inviting a reflection on identity, narrative and the blurred lines between fact and fiction.
At the end of the screening, stay in your seats for a special Q&A session with the director, Guillermo España, and the protagonist, Jesús Efraín ‘Pupi’ Espinoza.
