About the ACTION

For two Mondays already, people throughout the entire Netherlands
interrupted their work out of protest against the Dutch government’s policy towards Gaza. On Monday November 3rd, we will again voice our refusal to be complicit in this, now in even greater numbers. We will continue to interrupt our work on the first Monday each month, until sanctions against Israël are implemented. There are several locations where people will gather every 1st Monday of the month at noon. See www.wijwerkenhiernietaanmee.nl to find yours. #wijwerkenhiernietaanmee

About the ceasefire

At #wedonotcooperatewiththis, we welcome the fact that the rain of bombs on Gaza has largely stopped. That Israeli and Palestinian hostages have been released. And that humanitarian aid is now being delivered to Gaza under the authority of the UN.

But a ceasefire is only a pause — a brief interruption of the loudest violence. Much remains unclear about the impact of the peace plan unilaterally proposed by Trump. What is clear is that a plan for Palestine drawn up without the Palestinians themselves offers little foundation for a sustainable and just peace.

There is also a great risk that this plan will cause public attention for the Palestinians to fade — while their suffering is far from over. The occupation continues unabated. Palestinians are still being killed by Israeli bullets and bombs, settlers continue to seize and destroy land and homes, and Gaza lies in ruins, a minefield where thousands of children are malnourished. Trucks carrying humanitarian aid are still being blocked whenever it suits Israel. The immediate suffering of the Palestinians is therefore far from over, and the collective sigh of relief in the West makes justice seem further away than ever.

That is why we must continue to draw attention to the fate of the Palestinians and demand that those responsible for the genocide are brought to justice. The Genocide Convention, which the Netherlands has signed, obliges us to punish genocide. The demands of #wedonotcooperatewiththis towards the Dutch government therefore remain unchanged:

  • No arms trade or trade agreements with Israel
  • A ban on Israeli products from occupied territories
  • Recognition of the Palestinian state
  • Execution of the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrants against Netanyahu and Gallant

Because even when the bombs stop falling, the silence cannot hide the fact that genocide has been committed. And business as usual with perpetrators of genocide? We do not cooperate with that.
