Shorts Programme Description:
Virtual Journeys features two shorts by Waseem Khair in which Israeli-imposed geographical restrictions disclose their impact, from tangible realities to surreal dimensions. In 120KM, the director travels to a neighbouring Arab country, which brings legal risks, identity conflict and a forbidden sense of belonging. The consequences of segregation carries on in Gaza Bride 17, where the military occupation has a more violent nature, leading to traumas being survived by a journey through the protagonist’s imagination.

While all forms of prohibition disrupt Palestinians in their daily lives, Virtual Journeys encompasses how different layers of coping mechanisms are sought, from being an artist with Israeli citizenship to an undocumented Gazan fisherman in a military enforced territory. Following the films, director Wassem Khair will join (online) for a post-screening discussion, moderated by house festival moderator Yara Yuri Safadi.

2025 Palestinian Film Festival Amsterdam — Virtual Remains

Marking its 10th anniversary, the 2025 edition of the Palestinian Film Festival Amsterdam turns its focus to Gaza under the theme Virtual Remains. Inspired by poet Huda Fakhreddine’s words on Gaza as both place and time, the program reflects on virtuality as representation, imagination, and lived experience in Palestinian history and cinema.

Alongside the rich programme of screenings and parallel events at Ventilator, this year the festival is happy to once again host a souk (bazaar) with arts and crafts featuring Palestine. The market will take over Ventilator’s café space and is free for public entry. A full list of souk vendors will be announced on the PFFA social media.
