DESCRIPTION:KABOOM CULT: THE LORD OF THE RINGS (1978) INCL. INTRODUCTION\n\
nIn our collaboration with Kaboom Animation Festival\, we present rarely-s
een\nanimation classics on the big screen\, from recently restored cult ti
tles to\nseldom-screened festival hits. Animation belongs on the big scree
n and what\nbetter place to present it than at LAB111\, where Kaboom has i
ts offices? So grab\na drink and come watch great animation with us!\n\nFo
r many viewers\, Ralph Bakshi’s The Lord of the Rings (1978) is remembered
\nthrough worn VHS copies and is often overshadowed by Peter Jackson’s lat
er\nblockbuster adaptation. Long criticized for its unfinished story and h
eavy use\nof rotoscope animation\, the film nevertheless deserves renewed
appreciation.\nBakshi accomplished what filmmakers like Walt Disney\, John
	 Boorman\, and Stanley\nKubrick could not: bringing J.R.R. Tolkien’s vast
and complex world to the big\nscreen. Its distinctive blend of live-action
reference and animation created a\nunique visual style that even influenc
ed Jackson’s later films.\n\nOn Thursday\, September 10th\, the film will
be introduced by Maarten van\nGageldonk (Kaboom Animation Festival).
