DESCRIPTION:What is the role of architecture in the government of Edi Rama?
\n\nFor more than two months\, Albanians have taken to the streets every d
ay in\nTirana and other cities in what has come to be known as the Flaming
o Revolution.\nWhat began as a protest against the construction of a multi
	-billion-dollar\nluxury tourism development\, planned within a protected a
rea that is home to\nthriving populations of flamingos and other endangere
	d species\, has grown into a\nbroader anti-government movement. Protesters
increasingly see the project not as\nan isolated case\, but as emblematic
of a model of development pursued by Edi\nRama’s government\, now in its
fourth consecutive term in power. Architecture has\nbeen central to this m
odel. Over the past two decades\, Rama has used\narchitecture and urban de
velopment not only as instruments of governance\, but\nalso as a means of
projecting Albania onto the international stage. Numerous\ninternationally
renowned architecture practices\, many of which Dutch\, have been\ninvite
d to design and build across the country\, turning Albania into an\nincrea
singly prominent site of architectural experimentation and investment.\nDu
ring the first week of the protests\, a more than 700 pages book documenti
ng\nand celebrating this very phenomenon was launched in Tirana. The book
has since\nacquired a different significance: for many protesters\, it has
become an object\nof evidence\, a record of the development model they ar
e challenging.\n\nMet in dit programma Wouter Vanstiphout Writer Teacher C
