DESCRIPTION:Filmhuis Den Haag\, Melkweg and Paard present ‘Getting the Band
Back Together’ in\nNovember\, a joint music film programme celebrating ba
nds in all shapes\, sizes\nand genres.\n\nFollowing the sad passing of Gle
n Hansard last summer\, we are screening this\nwitty\, infectious film ada
ptation of Roddy Doyle’s novel of the same name\,\nstarring Hansard as the
guitarist Outspan Foster.\n\nThe young music fanatic Jimmy Rabitte (Rober
t Arkins) comes up with the\nbrilliant idea of forming a soul band in his
small village just north of Dublin.\nFirst of all\, he needs musicians and
singers. When he finds a guitarist\, a\nbassist\, three female singers\,
a male singer and a trumpeter\, things start to\ntake off. Slowly but sure
ly\, The Commitments work their way to the top. However\,\ninternal strife
threatens the band’s future.\n\nThe audience appreciated the fictional ba
nd’s music so much that\, even after the\nfilm\, they continued to perform
as ‘The Stars from The Commitments’\, albeit with\na slightly different l
ine-up.\n\nMelkweg often hosts different types of programmes at the same t
ime\, such as\nconcerts\, club nights and films. Please note that there ma
y occasionally be some\nnoise pollution from other programmes during the s
	creening.
