These photos seek to\ngive visibility to the existence and resist ance of a tupi guarani people.\n\nAbout.\n\nIn 1950\, hundreds of Indigeno us people were expelled from their land by a mining\ncompany.\n\nFor 50 ye ars\, all the vegetation\, soil\, and life in this territory were\ndevasta ted.\n\nIn 2000\, an elder\, Dona Catarina\, organized her family\, return ed to the\nterritory where her ancestors lived\, and confronted the mining company and the\nstate. In 1950, hundreds of Indigenous people were expelled from their land by a mining company.

For 50 years, all the vegetation, soil, and lif e in this territory were devastated.

In 2000, an elder, Dona Catarin a, organized her family, returned to the territory where her ancestors liv ed, and confronted the mining company and the state. The threats and confl icts were constant.

The existence of this people in this territory b ecame synonymous of resistance.

In 2012, a group of young Indigenous people met us due to demonstrations and struggles in the neighboring city and invited us to participate in a process of building houses, schools, c ultural centers, community kitchens, bathrooms, resistance and struggle in this territory.

In 2016, after many struggles, the territory was re cognized as Indigenous Land by the Brazilian state.

During these yea rs, with an old camera in hand, at the request of the families, we took th ese photos, something like proof of the existence of a people.

The e xhibition “Território” presents some of these photos.

“Território” s peaks about the possibility of existing in the world in other ways, comple tely distant from the state and capitalism.
