	erican artist Phil Buehler\, is a heartbreaking memorial\nto 18\,457 child
	ren killed in Gaza. The installation lists the names of children\nin the o
	rder in which they were killed between October 7th\, 2023 and July 19\,\n2
	025. First is Wesam Iyad Mohammed Abu Fsaife\, a 14-year-old boy. Last is 
	Sabah\nOmar Saad al-Masri\, an eight-year-old girl.\n\nThe Wall of Tears i
	nstallation was first displayed in Brooklyn\, New York on the\n29th of Jan
	uary 2026 and has been displayed around the world\, including\nAustralia\,
	 London\, San Fransisco\, Mexico\, New Jersey and is now brought for the\n
	first time to Amsterdam. It will be displayed as an public artwork on the 
	10\nmeter wide outdoor wall of the Plein Theater. The opening is on Octobe

	/events/111694511])\n\nThe installation has brought visitors from around t
	he world to witness the\nintersection of art\, political commentary and th
	e horrors of genocide.\n\nThe rows and rows of names are punctuated by pho
	tos and stories of individual\nchildren\, drawing on reports by the Guardi
	an and Washington Post newspapers.\n\n“If you approach from a distance\, i
	t looks like almost an abstract painting and\nthat draws people in to see\
	, what is that?” according to the artist Phil\nBuehler. “Then you’ll see t
	hey’re names of the children killed in Gaza since 7\nOctober and there are
	 thousands of them stretching down the wall.”\n\n“Then you’ll be drawn in 
	further\, I hope\, to see the faces and read the stories.\nThat’s the part
	 that gets me when I look at it. You see these faces full of joy\nand hope
	\, snapshots from graduations and birthday parties and family gatherings\n
	and knowing that these kids’ lives were just cut short.”\n\nThe artist ref
	lects: “You can’t not think about your own kids and your own\nfamilies. I 
	hope that might lead people to think about how they might help\, even\nif 
	it’s just\, take a photo of the mural and pass it along on their social me
	dia\nor to their friends.”\n\n\nThis is a heartbreaking and powerful work
