DTSTART:20261107T190000Z
DESCRIPTION:Pra Girar Girar are Alvaro Lancellotti\, Michele Leal\, and Ala
n de Deus on\nvocals\, Pedro Costa on guitar\, Kassin on bass\, Zé Manoel
on piano and vocals\,\nZero Telles (in memoriam) and Anna Magalhães on per
cussion\, and Diogo Gomes on\ntrumpet. The project came about from Alvaro
Lancellotti’s long-standing\nadmiration for the work of Os Tincoãs and his
wish to create a live show\ncelebrating the legendary trio. “The idea was
to create a show that could\nintroduce the younger generation to the work
of the Bahian group”\, says Alvaro\nLancellotti. Their shows drew the att
ention of producer Mario Caldato Jr. and\nartistic director Samantha Calda
to who suggested recording an album for their\nlabel Amor in Sound. The si
ngle very much follows in the steps of Os Tincoãs\nwith its close harmonic
spaces and Afro-Brazilian chants that made their music\nso innovative and
special. Os Tincoãs\nThey were a Brazilian popular music group from Bahia
\, primarily active in the\n1960s and 1970s. The music of Os Tincoãs was h
eavily influenced by Bahia's\nCandomblé culture and tradition. The Tincoãs
brought together religious chants\,\ngods\, orixás and sambas de roda\, r
	einforcing Afro-Brazilian heritage. About the\nfounders\nMateus Aleluia (8
3 years old) is still very active in singing and songwriting.\nIn 2017 he
	released "Fogueira Doce"\, a new album produced independently.\nAnother 'T
incoã' is Badu (76 years old)\, who joined Os Tincoãs in 1975 remaining\nt
ill 1983.\nDadinho died in Luanda\, Angola in 2000\, where he had opened a
bakery. The New\nYork Times about Pra Gira Girar:\n"What if a collective
of renowned musicians decided to reimagine the songbook of\nBrazil’s most\
nbeloved vocal group? And in the process created a record rooted in\nAfro-
Brazilian tradition that\nsounds thoroughly contemporary and original?\n\n
That is the story of Pra Gira Girar—A Celebration of Os Tincoãs. Born of l
	ove\nand reverence for\nBahia’s legendary trio\, Os Tincoãs\, this studio
	project reimagines their music\nfor today’s audiences.\nIn the 1970s\, Os
Tincoãs combined chants from the Candomblé and Umbanda\nreligions with int
ricate\nvocal arrangements and unearthly close harmonies\, creating some o
f the most\nimportant recordings\nin the history of Brazilian popular musi
	c.\n\nInspired by historic LPs\, four singer-songwriters—Alvaro Lancellott
i\, Michele\nLeal\, Alan de\nDeus\, Zé Manoel and guitarist Pedro Costa —f
ormed Pra Girar Gira in 2025.\nTogether with a group of outstanding instru
mentalists and producers Kassin and\nMario Caldato Jr. they transform clas
sic songs like "Atabaque Chora"\, "Cordeiro\nde Nanã" and “Na Beira do Mar
	” by weaving in\nmodern basslines\, vibrant horn sections\, and expanded p
ercussion.\n\nPra Gira Girar\, A Celebration of Os Tincoãs is an emotional
ly charged\nexploration of Afro-Brazilian music and spirituality by a grou
	p that sounds like\nno one else". Alex Halberstadt\n\n\nREVIEWS\n\nThere a
