The\ndocumentary critical ly examines the long standing exploitation of West Papua\,\nprotected by t he military\, and the displacement of Indigenous communities from\ntheir c ustomary lands\, which are essential to their livelihoods\, identity and\n cultural survival. Although public screenings of the documentary have been \nforcibly disrupted in Indonesia\, Pesta Babi has sparked much attention in\nIndonesia and abroad.\n\nDuring this programme\, we will have direct c onversations with the film\nproduction team and West Papuan researchers an d artivists\, with screening of\ncurated clips discussing the film. He was active in the Indone sian Migrant Workers (IMWU) Netherlands\, and\nalso a volunteer during IPT (International Peoples’s Tribunal) 1965 in The Haag\n2015\, for which he did many courtroom sketches.\n\nKomo specializes in rapid illustrations an d event reportages. He sustains his\nartmaking by taking up jobs in the co nstruction sector –laboring experience has\ndeeply influenced his process as he makes use of scraps and recycled materials\nto create art. A native Semarang, Koes Komo (b. 1980) now calls Amsterdam hom e and is an active member of the city’s communities while remaining connec ted to his Indonesian roots.
