DESCRIPTION:On 3 July 2026\, Framer Framed hosts A Capetonian Quintet’s Fra
ctally in Medias\nRes — a musical performance reclaiming colonial Dutch mu
sic as an act of\nresistance. In the spirit of Keti Koti\, a quintet of vo
calists and cultural\ncarriers from Cape Town present a variety of Nederla
nds Liederen\, passed down\nthrough centuries of oral tradition\, each per
formance adding another layer to a\nliving counter-archive.\n\nWhile the N
ederlands Liederen (Dutch songs) of the VOC era have largely been\nerased
from the collective memory within the Netherlands\, they survive in Cape\n
Town as a vital\, evolving counter-archive. Passed down through centuries
of oral\ntradition among the Cape Malay and creole communities\, these son
gs are not\nstatic artefacts: they are active\, sonic vessels of memory\,
continuity\, and\nresistance for the descendants of enslaved populations.\
n\nPresented in the reflective spirit and aftermath of Keti Koti\, a quint
et of\nelite vocalists and young cultural carriers from Cape Town activate
this\nrepertoire of preserved melodies. This performance offers an immers
ive\nexploration of how marginalised communities creatively navigate\, rec
laim\, and\ntransform colonial linguistic and musical forms. By re-centeri
ng these voices\,\nthe activation unearths the complex\, entangled histori
es of colonial labor\,\nforced migration\, and the ongoing\, embodied prac
tices of radical emancipation.\n\nSign up here [https://framerframed.stage
