	cellist who\nbecame a fierce resistance fighter in occupied Amsterdam\, an
	d went on to become\nthe world’s first female conductor of a professional 
	orchestra. Less people know\nthe name of her relative Daniël Belinfante: a
	 brilliant composer working in\nAmsterdam before dying in Auschwitz in 194
	5\, just before Liberation Day.\n\nAt the core of this evening will be the
	 performance of several of Daniël\nBelinfante’s song sketches that have ne
	ver before found their way to the stage.\nOne of those\, Pale Thoughts\, p
	rovides tonight’s title as an exploration of both\nthe indistinct past and
	 the incomprehensible.\n\nThese songs\, together with other contemporary c
	ounterpoints\, will be performed\nby the extraordinary singer Patricia Auc
	hterlonie. The music will be interleaved\nwith new film vignettes created 
	by artist – and ancestor – Sam Belinfante from\nnew and archival materials
	 of Frieda\, Daniël\, and Amsterdam’s lost Jewish\nQuarter. Music and film
	\, then\, will be interwoven by stories told by Nora\nFischer about the ne
	ighbourhood’s history\, war resistance\, and the performers’\nown reflecti
	ons on genealogy and intergenerational trauma.\n\nIn collaboration with Fe
