SUMMARY:OPEN FIELD LISTENING STATION by Femke Dekker (Loma Doom)
DTSTAMP:20260602T215123Z
DTSTART:20260605T160000Z
DESCRIPTION:TALK BY FEMKE DEKKER AND Q&A WITH FEDERICA NOTARI AT 6.30PM\n\n
	Practitioner\, educator\, DJ\, and researcher\, Femke Dekker (also known a
s Loma\nDoom) has long been immersed in both sound and education. Across l
	ecture halls\,\narchives\, festivals\, art galleries\, independent radio s
tations\, and dance\nfloors\, she orbits a central question: What if liste
ning itself were an artistic\npractice? What might unfold when listening b
ecomes method\, medium\, and material?\n\nOpen Field Listening takes shape
around these ideas. Presented as a\ncollaboration between Page Not Found—
an artist-run platform dedicated to\npublishing and experimental practices
—and the record label Osàre! Editions\, the\ntext originates from Dekker’s
graduation thesis for the Master Education in Arts\nat the Piet Zwart Ins
titute\, Rotterdam. There\, she honed her skills as a\npedagogue\, invitin
g students into improvisational jam sessions\, radio-making\,\nand exercis
es that activate new modes of attention and a heightened sense of\nsonic c
uriosity.\n\nDrawing on the work of scholars and artists—most notably Paul
ine Oliveros—Dekker\napproaches listening as a call to action: a way of tu
ning into one’s\nsurroundings\, one’s body\, and the urgencies that contou
r our political and\nsocial worlds. She emphasizes the radical potential o
f reorienting knowledge\ntoward collective attunement: the we rather than
the I (or the eye). Inspired by\nOliveros’s concept of Deep Listening—a wa
y of expanding awareness through\nfocused\, embodied perception—Dekker ack
nowledges the composer as a foundational\nfeminist figure whose insights c
ontinue to reverberate through the classroom\,\nthe studio\, and beyond.
