SUMMARY:Naza (2026)
DTSTAMP:20261015T002044Z
DTSTART:20261015T180000Z
DESCRIPTION:As part of the national campaign month ‘Beyond the Red Line’\,
we are screening\nthe documentary ‘Naza’ (2026) at our cinema. \n\n‘Naza’\
, by Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor – two of the filmmakers behind the\nOsc
ar-winning documentary ‘No Other Land’ – is a revealing film about the\nsy
stems behind the large-scale civilian deaths in Gaza. On the rooftops of T
el\nAviv\, far from the war zone\, Israeli military personnel hold secret
meetings at\nnight. Step by step\, it becomes clear how\, within the army
and the intelligence\nservices\, decisions are made as to who is a target\
, which technologies and\nprocedures are employed in the process\, and how
many civilian casualties an\nattack is permitted to cause. Dozens\, and s
ometimes hundreds\, of Palestinian\ncivilians may be regarded as an accept
able price to pay for eliminating a single\ntarget.\n\nThe film thus poses
the painful question: how can the killing of innocent\ncivilians become s
o normalised within a military apparatus that it is no longer\nseen as a m
oral or legal problem? The title refers to Nezek Agavi\, ‘collateral\ndama
ge’\, the Israeli military term for the expected number of civilian\ncasua
lties from an air strike. The term thus symbolises the dehumanisation that
\nis deeply ingrained in the system: civilian deaths are not a tragic side
-effect\,\nbut a foreseen and accepted part of military operations. *Naza*
premiered at the\nVenice Film Festival\, where it won the Special Jury Pr
	ize.
