u ready to blast past the limitations of a jam session? Are you ready to\n
extract every drop of musical creativity? This workshop is for those who a
re\nready to risk putting everything that goes in their brains out there i
n musical\nform! After this workshop\, you're never going to look at music
the same way!\n\nMore than a jam\, the Jam With Humans workshop is a work
shop on how to jam. Your\nteacher will guide you through exercises on musi
cal improvisation and\ncreativity. In a typical workshop\, we start by get
ting to know each other and\nwhy we came to the workshop. Then\, we warm-u
p by allowing ourselves to be silly\nand childishly curious\, usually via
theatrical exercises. At this point\, we\nreplace the verbal component of
these exercises by improvised music. We proceed\nwith exercising our skill
s in coming up with musical ideas\, transferring them\nand listening to th
e ideas of others\, and finish the session with one big jam.\n\nThe Jam Wi
th Humans Workshops are free to join. A (voluntary) contribution will\nbe
requested at the end of the session for helping with production costs\n(su
	ggested €20).\n\n🤔FAQ🤔\n\nShould I bring an instrument?If you can\, please
bring your instrument. Our\nvenue\, PARLOUR AMSTERDAM will be equipped wi
	th two guitar amplifiers\, a drum set\nand a PA system.\n\nI’m a beginner\
, can I join?Yes! The workshop is for everyone: we’ll be able to\nuse what
ever sounds you can produce plus all your knowledge of music (both from\nl
istening and playing) to explore how they can be used creatively in an\nim
provisational setting. The workshop is also a safe space\, so don’t be shy
	 in\ntaking risks musically\, we have your back!\n\nI’m a professional\, s
hould I join?Absolutely! Given that the workshop is about\nimprovisation a
nd creativity\, chances are you’ll be faced with exercises that\nallow you
to explore your instrument in ways you never thought about before.\nPlus\
, you’ll be practicing mechanisms of being able to improvise with anyone\n
else\, in different instruments and with different musical sensibilities.\
n\nHow often should I participate? As often as you want! The workshops are
weekly\n(or fortnightly during summer time) and their syllabus is circular
. All\nworkshops are different and it’s recommended that you come to at le
ast three\nbefore you make up your mind about them. Otherwise\, show up as
often as you\nwant: every week\, every two weeks\, many workshops in a ro
w and then none for a\nfew months...There is only one catch: those who com
e often will be invited\neventually to join The Jam With Humans Orchestra
in a separate rehearsal and\njoin our Jam With Humans live shows. Also\, t
hose who come really often\n(regularly for over a year)\, will be invited
to teach workshops themselves\, as\nthat’s a fundamental part of the Jam W
ith Humans pedagogical ethos.\n\nDoes everyone have to participate\, or ca
	n I just watch?Everyone has to\nparticipate! If you’re in the room\, you’l
l have to participate. No observers!\nAgain: we get your back\, no worries
. Hold our hand and be ready to dive into the\nworld of improvised music\,
we’ll be there to help you through the journey.\n\nWhat style do we play?
Whatever you’d like to play. Musical styles\, musical\ngenres\, those are
words which tend to not be imposed to the workshop\nparticipants. The goal
of the workshop is to harness whatever is your musical\nlanguage and sens
ibility to better cooperate with others in an improvisational\ncontext.\n\
nIs there anything I should do to prepare?Actively listen to a lot of musi
	c. Sit\ndown and think of what went through the musicians/composers heads
that lead to\nwhat you are listening to. If you’re looking for inspiration
\, start with one of\nthe three big influences on the Jam With Humans musi
cal improvisation style:\nJohn Zorn\, Sun Ra\, Frank Zappa.
