DESCRIPTION:Minneapolis based artists reflect on the recent experiences in
sound and song\n\nAs summer nights dwindle\, and dusk gently swallows all
which hangs in the\nbalance between light and dark\, splendorian Thomas My
rmel has brought\nMinneapolis based artists John Marks and Crystal Myslaje
k with their new project\nReflectors to provide a window into the direct e
xperience of Minneapolis through\nthe tumultuous struggles of the last yea
r(s). As counterpoint to the emotional\ndistortion of the ballad of Minneh
aha performed by SEALF\, Reflectors provides an\nartist-as-activist insigh
t to the tenderness required to preserve human\nconnection in the face of
state-sponsored violence.\n\nThis evening will resonate with songs from ac
ross the planet with beautiful\nmelodies and dense harmonies in the sonic
trimmings of electronic production\nwhich teases the ear with continual so
nic play.\n\nReflectors:\nCrystal Myslajek (piano/synth)\nJohn Marks (elec
	tronics)\n\nSealf:\nThomas Myrmel (voice/electronics/trombone)\nJonathan N
agel (double bass/electronics)\n\n– Bios –\nReflectors is Crystal Myslajek
and John Marks\nDeeply rooted in the rich landscape of grassroots contemp
orary art in\nMinneapolis\, Minnesota\, Reflectors is the musical duo of c
omposer &\nmulti-instrumentalist\, Crystal Myslajek and interdisciplinary
	artist\, John\nMarks. The duo craft expansive\, long-form compositions tha
t combine slowly\nevolving melodies and colorful sonic textures with voice
\, keyboard and\nelectronics. Often performing in visual and cinema arts c
	ontexts\, the duo has\npresented their work at museums\, festivals\, and u
nderground venues throughout\nNorth America.\n\nBecause of its ongoing str
uggles with state-sponsored violence\, for many in the\nTwin Cities\, the
arts and activism are synonymous. Since the 2020 social\nuprising in respo
nse to the police killing of George Floyd\, and as recently as\nwinter 202
	6 when U.S. forces began forcibly abducting neighbors\, loved ones\, and\n
friends - the personal is inherently political. Reflectors’ work is no\nex
ception. Their artistic output reflects their engagement in systems of\nco
mmunity care and frameworks for resistance that are necessary to collectiv
e\nwellbeing in the face of relentless attacks on humanity.\n\nSealf is th
e joyous product of the universal coincidence where electronic wizard\nTho
mas Myrmel crossed paths with bassist and soundsmith Jonathan Nagel. Toget
her\nthey explore the farthest reaches of song form\, deftly weaving melod
ies with\nsound walls and trilling frequencies drawing the listener into a
	 sonic\nmeditation sculpted into Myrmel's evocative lyrics.\nThomas Myrmel
	 (Voice/electr/Trombone) is a composer\, performer and multifaceted\nartis
t\, weaving the notions of social change\, craftsmanship and creative\nexp
ression into every aspect of his practice.\nJonathan Nagel (Contrabass) is
driven by a craving to convey emotions and tell\nstories. Continuously se
eking to abandon the borders between genres\, striving to\nmerely rely on
whatever means it takes to create a certain image or feeling.\nAlongside C
	ontrabass\, Nagel's artistic practice includes music\, poetry\,\nimprovisa
	tion\, physical theater\, performance art\, and dance.
