	 DUTCH PUBLIC SPHERE (PANEL TALK)\n\nTwenty-five years after 9/11\, how we
	 talk about Islam and Muslims in the\nNetherlands is still shaped by the m
	edia narratives that emerged in its\naftermath. News coverage\, political 
	debate and popular culture have played a\npowerful role in defining who is
	 seen as a threat\, who belongs and whose voice\nis heard. As part of Manu
	facturing Consent\, LAB111 brings together historian and\nauthor Nadia Bou
	ras\, historian and journalist Lotfi El Hamidi\, and a third\nspeaker (to 
	be announced) for a panel discussion on the production and\nrepresentation
	 of Islamophobia in Dutch media since 9/11.\n\nThe panel will look at how 
	representations of Islam and Muslims have shifted\nover the past twenty-fi
	ve years\, the political and cultural forces behind those\nshifts\, and th
	e consequences of narratives that have repeatedly framed Muslims\nthrough 
	questions of security\, integration and threat. It will also consider the\
	nways these narratives have been challenged\, who gets to shape representa
	tions of\nMuslim life in the Netherlands\, and whether the media landscape
	 is genuinely\nchanging today.\n\nAbout the speakers:\n\nNadia Bouras is a
	 Dutch historian\, author and Assistant Professor at Leiden\nUniversity\, 
	specialising in the modern history of Morocco and Moroccan migration\nto E
	urope. Her research focuses on migration\, identity\, transnationalism\, a
	nd\nthe inclusion and exclusion of migrants and their descendants. She is 
	also\naffiliated with the Netherlands Institute Morocco (NIMAR) in Rabat. 
	Bouras is\nthe author of Het land van herkomst and Een klas apart\, and re
	gularly\ncontributes to public debates on migration\, diversity and contem
	porary Morocco.\nShe is a columnist for OneWorld.\n\nLotfi El Hamidi is a 
	historian and journalist. He has worked for NRC and is\ncurrently an edito
	r at De Groene Amsterdammer. His publications include\nGeneratie 9/11. Mig
	ratie\, diaspora en identiteit (2022)\, which was nominated for\nthe Prins

	l will look at how representations of Islam and Muslims have shifted over

	 shifts, and the consequences of narratives that have repeatedly framed Mu

	strong></p><p><strong>Nadia Bouras</strong> is a Dutch historian, author a
	nd Assistant Professor at Leiden University, specialising in the modern hi
	story of Morocco and Moroccan migration to Europe. Her research focuses on
	 migration, identity, transnationalism, and the inclusion and exclusion of
	 migrants and their descendants. She is also affiliated with the Netherlan
	ds Institute Morocco (NIMAR) in Rabat. Bouras is the author of <em>Het lan
	d van herkomst</em> and <em>Een klas apart</em>, and regularly contributes
	 to public debates on migration, diversity and contemporary Morocco. She i
	s a columnist for <em>OneWorld</em>.</p><p><strong>Lotfi El Hamidi</strong
	> is a historian and journalist. He has worked for <em>NRC</em> and is cur
	rently an editor at <em>De Groene Amsterdammer</em>. His publications incl
