DESCRIPTION:A Klazien-o-theek lab with composer Kate Moore\, open to everyo
ne\, during\nSearching for the Underground\, her installation at De Poorth
uisjes.\n\n\nSEARCHING FOR THE UNDERGROUND\n\nSearching for the Undergroun
d is a multidisciplinary installation by composer\nKate Moore at De Poorth
uisjes in Amsterdam. Developed during her residency with\nOde aan de gemee
nschap\, the work explores the sounds of the garden at the Van\nder Pek ho
using block and the hidden world beneath it.\n\nDuring her residency with
Ode aan de gemeenschap\, Moore has turned her attention\nto the semi-enclo
sed garden of the Van der Pek housing block. Using audio\nequipment\, she
explores the hidden world beneath the surface of this urban\noasis. Throug
h this artistic research\, Moore becomes part of the everyday life\nof the
Van der Pek block by listening to the sounds that converge in the garden\
nfrom the surrounding apartments. As the residents themselves do not have
access\nto the garden\, she occupies a unique position since she can exper
ience a form of\ncollectivity that remains hidden from others. This prelim
inary research will\nlead to Moore’s next project\, The Underground: An Un
seen Opera\, which will be\npresented at the Oranjewoud Festival\, a conte
mporary music festival in\nFriesland\, in May 2027.\n\n\nKATE MOORE\n\nKat
e Moore is an internationally acclaimed Australian-Dutch composer whose wo
rk\nexplores the physical qualities of sound and its relationship to space
\, time and\nperception. Her compositions often develop through repetition
and gradual\ntransformation\, drawing attention to subtle changes in text
ure\, rhythm and\nresonance. Alongside composing for musicians and ensembl
es\, Moore creates sound\ninstallations and site-sensitive works that resp
ond to their surroundings.\n\nBorn in Oxfordshire (England) in 1979 and ra
ised in Australia\, she has lived and\nworked in the Netherlands since 200
	2. Her compositions balance between\ncontemporary classical music and expe
rimental sound art. She often seeks\ninnovative sounds by combining tradit
ional instruments with unconventional\nobjects made of metal or ceramic. S
he founded her own ensemble\, the Herz\nEnsemble. Her works are also perfo
rmed worldwide by leading ensembles and\norchestras such as Asko|Schönberg
	\, HIIT/Slagwerk Den Haag\, the Netherlands Radio\nPhilharmonic Orchestra\
, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra\, the Groot Omroepkoor\n(Netherlands Radio
Choir)\, and the Netherlands Chamber Choir. Her compositions\nhave been p
resented at venues and events including the Holland Festival\,\nMuziekgebo
uw\, TivoliVredenburg\, and the Sydney Opera House. In 2017\, she\nreceive
d the prestigious Dutch Matthijs Vermeulen Prize for composition\,\nfollow
ed by the Gieskes-Strijbis Podiumprijs in 2022.\n\n\nODE AAN DE GEMEENSCHA
P\n\nOde aan de gemeenschap is a year-long programme at De Poorthuisjes th
at brings\nprofessional artists and local residents together. Through four
artist\nresidencies\, the programme explores the contemporary meaning of
community and\nthe ways in which people connect\, share knowledge and crea

es the projects and hosts the\nKlazien-o-theek.\n\nDe Poorthuisjes are two
former gatehouses of the Van der Pek housing block.\nBuilt in 1912\, the
