DESCRIPTION:North Holland is set to welcome an impressive new art project: 
	a monumental\ntapestry measuring no less than 35 metres long and 3 metres 
	high. The project\,\nThreads of our Dutch Slavery Past\, brings together s
	tories\, perspectives and\nhistories in a powerful and unifying work of ar
	t. The project is launched at\nFramer Framed on 1 May 2026.\n\nThe initiat
	ive was originally launched in Groningen by cultural entrepreneur\nRicardo
	 Burgzorg and has since been implemented in seven provinces. With its\narr
	ival in North Holland\, the project enters a new chapter\, centred on loca
	l\nstories and community involvement.\n\nThe design for the North Holland 
	tapestry was created by artist Raul Balai and\nis based on historical rese
	arch into the traces of the province’s colonial and\nslavery past. The sea
	rch for the stories hidden within North Holland and how\nthey continue to 
	have an impact today serves as the starting point for the\ncollaborative c
	reative process.\n\nResidents from across North Holland are invited to sig
	n up to take part. At\nworkshops in locations including Alkmaar\, Amsterda
	m\, Haarlem\, Hoorn\, Purmerend\nand Zaandam\, participants come together 
	to create sections of the tapestry under\nguidance. Each location makes it
	s own contribution to the whole\, bringing\ntogether local histories\, per
	sonal perspectives and collaborative research in\ntextile form.\n\nVarious
	 textile techniques are used\; no experience is necessary and there is\npl
	enty of opportunity to learn\, experiment and meet one another. The aim is
	 to\nmake the stories visible and tangible by reflecting together on a sha
	red past\,\nand to recognise and articulate hidden connections.\n\nThe kic
