DESCRIPTION:Guitar and tabla duo present new original music + a dialogue be
tween tap dance\nand tabla\n\nTap dancer Marije Nie met tabla player Taran
	g Poddar in 2023 in a unique project\ncalled 'Book of Premonitions'\, wher
e more than 200 students from the IVKO school\nin Amsterdam were invited t
o collectively create a 'libretto' based on their\nvisions on the future.
They made texts\, but also scultures and drawings. Working\nfrom their mat
erials\, the artists of the collective then created a unique\,\none-off 'o
pera' that was performed at De Doelen\, Korzo and Muziektheater. In\nthis
collaboration\, Marije and Tarang found a resonance between taps and tabla
s\,\nwhich led to this evening in which they will explore the connections
between\ntabla and tap in an improvised dialogue\, after which Tarang will
present his\nconcert Jelle x Tarang.\n\nJelle X Tarang have been developi
ng rhythmically intricate instrumental music\nbuilt around grooves\, odd m
etres\, and shifting rhythmic perspectives —\ntechnically demanding yet co
mpletely accessible to the untrained ear. Drawing\nfrom jazz\, African mus
ical influences\, Indian classical music\, and electronic\naesthetics\, th
e duo constructs acoustic music that constantly mutates\, where\nrepetitio
n\, silence\, and sudden breaks shape the flow like an evolving machine.\n
Using electric guitar\, live processing\, tabla\, and percussion\, they bl
ur the\nline between acoustic and electronic sound while creating a highly
distinctive\nand contemporary musical language.\n\nJelle Roozenburg layer
	s melodic fragments\, rich contemporary harmonies\, and\nlooping textures
into compositions that blur the line between acoustic and\nelectronic soun
	d. Within these shifting\nstructures\, Tarang Poddar — a seasoned artist w
hose stage presence holds the\nroom with the same focused economy as his p
	laying — navigates polyrhythms\,\nmetric modulations\, and hybrid\npercuss
ion textures through a combined tabla and percussion setup\; deeply rooted
\nin Indian classical music\, his varied influences bleed into one another
in\nunexpected ways\, while the tabla\nitself is pushed toward unfamiliar
sonic territory\, creating a highly\ndistinctive and contemporary aesthet
ic to the instrument.\n\nMarije Nie is a Marije Nie is a tap dancer and th
