DESCRIPTION:Last year\, Belarusian human rights activist and Nobel Peace Pr
	ize laureate Ales\nBialiatski was released after spending four and a half 
	years in one of\nLukashenko’s penal colonies\, known for its extreme condi
	tions. For decades\,\nBialiatski has campaigned for democracy and human ri
	ghts in Belarus through his\norganization\, Viasna. In the aftermath of th
	e mass protests against president\nLukashenko in 2020 and 2021\, Bialiatsk
	i was arrested and imprisoned. Now\, he\ncomes to De Balie.\n\nIn his Free
	dom Lecture\, Bialiatski will speak about the ongoing struggle for\nhuman 
	rights and democratic freedoms in Belarus\, drawing on his personal\nexper
	ience as an activist and political prisoner put to forced labour. What is\
	nthe current situation in Belarus\, and what future awaits the country? Th
	e\nlecture will be followed by a talk by philosopher and feminist thinker 
	Olga\nShparaga\, who will reflect on the role of feminist solidarity\, car
	e\, and\nartistic resistance in the Belarusian democracy movement.\n\nThe 
	evening will also feature an audiovisual performance combining live music\
	nand literary testimony built around the essays by Maxim Znak\, a Belarusi
	an\nlawyer and writer. Arrested in 2020 for his role in Belarus’s democrat
	ic\nmovement\, Znak spent more than five years in prison. While detained\,
	 he secretly\nwrote The Zekamerone\, a memoir smuggled out of prison. The
