DESCRIPTION:Six years ago\, friends Inza and Kader from Ivory Coast risked
their lives\ncrossing the Mediterranean. Kader\, an optimistic man of acti
on\, now has a\nresidence permit and a job in Italy. Inza\, nicknamed Bour
geois\, traveled on to\nFrance\, where he lives undocumented with little p
rospect of being granted\nasylum.\n\nAccording to Kader\, Inza is rather l
azy\; he takes little initiative and mainly\nrelies on other people\, incl
uding his girlfriend Maeve. The friends’ different\nattitudes to life have
led to different outcomes\, yet they also have much in\ncommon. For both
of them\, family comes first. They hope one day to return to\nIvory Coast\
, wealthy and successful. But can they also make a life for\nthemselves in
Europe?\n\nFilmmaker Joël Akafou has made a film about Inza before: Trave
rser (2020). The\nclose bond between director and subject is palpable\, an
d Akafou also shows the\nmost vulnerable\, difficult moments at close rang
	e. Kader struggles with the\nexpectations of his family in Ivory Coast\, w
hile Inza prepares for adult life as\na husband and father. The future tur
ns out to be elusive.\n\nIDFA x De Balie\nDe Balie has selected six of the
best films featured at IDFA. Documentaries on a\nwide range of subjects\,
that share a common thread: they are auteur-driven\nworks\, created with
a distinct artistic vision. Films that use the camera as a\ntool of expres
sion\, rather than mere registration. Join us after each screening\nfor a
conversation hosted by De Balie\, with filmmakers and notable guests.
