DESCRIPTION:On October 7\, 2023\, Israeli filmmaker Anet Even lost her home
and friends in the\nHamas attack on Kibbutz Nir Oz. Now\, she returns to
document what remains\nthere—destroyed homes and the stench of death—and w
hat is happening on the other\nside of the barrier that has stood there si
nce the 1990s. A genocide is taking\nplace in real time\, with bombs strik
ing as she films.\n\nThe filmmaker does not exempt herself from scrutiny:
in voice-over\, she reflects\non her own conflicted relationship with the
events and her country. She is a\nfervent opponent of the current governme
nt\, but does not know how to channel\nthat opposition. Her dilemmas emerg
e in conversations with her more activist\nfriend Ariel Cypel\, a playwrig
ht living in Paris.\n\nAnet Even films her attempts to enter Gaza and docu
ments a gathering of settlers\nwho plan to build in Gaza and proclaim this
by chanting\, “Occupy\, expel\,\nsettle.” An introspective and revealing
	film essay on loss\, grief\, revenge\,\ndehumanization and indifference.\n
\nIDFA x De Balie\nDe Balie has selected six of the best films featured at
IDFA. Documentaries on a\nwide range of subjects\, that share a common th
read: they are auteur-driven\nworks\, created with a distinct artistic vis
ion. Films that use the camera as a\ntool of expression\, rather than mere
registration. Join us after each screening\nfor a conversation hosted by
De Balie\, with filmmakers and notable guests.
