SUMMARY:I Was A Teenage Sex Pistol (2025)
DTSTAMP:20260818T000843Z
DTSTART:20260910T170000Z
DESCRIPTION:In 2026\, it will be exactly 50 years since The Sex Pistols’ de
but single\,\n‘Anarchy in the UK’\, was released. Punk was born: blaringly
	 loud\, brazen\, dirty\nand raw\, and with a raised middle finger\, the ba
nd sent a veritable shockwave\nthrough a UK ravaged by crisis and unemploy
ment. In this raw film\, the band’s\noriginal bassist\, Glen Matlock\, tel
ls the story\, immediately revealing the\nmajor\, often surprising role he
played in the band’s success. Featuring a wealth\nof historical footage a
nd interviews\, this film – based on Matlock’s book of the\nsame name – re
counts the band’s origins\, the release of their first single and\ntheir d
ebut LP\, *Never Mind the Bollocks\, Here’s the Sex Pistols*. This album\,
\nwhich was immediately met with censorship and boycotts\, is now regarded
as one\nof the most important and influential albums in pop history. Narr
ator Matlock\ncomes across as surprisingly gentle\, a world away from the
common image of the\nbrash Sex Pistols. It is hardly surprising that he so
on clashed with Johnny\nRotten. Matlock left the band after the release of
their debut album\, but his\ninfluence is indelible.\n\nMelkweg often hos
ts different types of programmes at the same time\, such as\nconcerts\, cl
ub nights and films. Please note that there may occasionally be some\nnois
e pollution from other programmes during the screening.
