SUMMARY:HOSTING SPACE by Maike Statz
DTSTAMP:20260624T231451Z
DTSTART:20260703T160000Z
DESCRIPTION:Hosting Space explores how processes of hosting\, such as acces
s\, support\, and\ngathering\, operate within the context of an art instit
ution. It invites readers\nto reconsider how these activities are embedded
in the spaces we inhabit and how\nthey shape spatial practices.\n\nThe pu
blication reflects on an exhibition and event program curated by Maike\nSt
atz at Hordaland Kunstsenter\, Bergen\, in 2023\, bringing together visual
\ndocumentation\, new writing\, and interviews with Staci Bu Shea\, Océane
\nVé-Réveillac\, and César Reyes Nájera. Through these contributions\, the
book\nconsiders how art institutions and spatial practitioners might oper
	ate\ndifferently by prioritizing accessibility\, interdependence\, differe
nce\,\nmaintenance\, and spaces for spontaneous gathering.\nDesigned by Fr
ancesca Lucchitta and edited by Mathijs van Geest\, Hosting Space\nis both
an invitation and an active archive\, engaging with ongoing discussions\n
on socially engaged practices\, institutional critique\, and exhibition-ma
king as\na method of research.\n\nMaike Statz (born 1992) is an Australian
interior architect\, artist and writer\nliving in Oslo and Amsterdam. In
her work she explores the relationship between\nbodies\, emotion\, behavio
ur\, identity and space. Informed by feminist and queer\npractices\, Maike
Statz investigates spatial inequalities and seeks alternative\ntools and
	methods for space-making.
