DESCRIPTION:Genre: Documentary screening\nOpen: 16:30 - 20:00 hrs\nTickets:
	 € 8\n\n16:30 - Welcome and Introduction\n17:00 - Film Screening ('96)\n“G
iulio Regeni: All the Evil in the World” is the first documentary to\nreco
nstruct the judicial truth surrounding the abduction\, torture\, and murde
r of\nthe Italian researcher\, whose body was found near Cairo on 3 Februa
ry 2016.\n\nFor the first time\, Giulio’s story is told by his parents\, C
laudio Regeni and\nPaola Deffendi\, who have fought tirelessly to uncover
the truth about what\nhappened to their son. The documentary also features
the testimony from\nAlessandra Ballerini\, the lawyer who has assisted th
em throughout their long\nlegal battle\, which eventually led to the trial
in Italy of four members of\nEgypt’s National Security Agency.\n\nGiulio
Regeni was a 28-year-old Italian PhD researcher at the University of\nCamb
ridge conducting fieldwork in Cairo on independent trade unions. He\ndisap
peared on 25 January 2016\, and his body was found on 3 February\, bearing
\nextensive signs of torture. Italian investigations established that Rege
ni had\ncome to the attention of the Egyptian security apparatus before hi
s\ndisappearance and eventually led to the prosecution of four members of
Egypt’s\nNational Security Agency for their alleged involvement in his abd
uction\,\ntorture\, and killing.\n\nThe Egyptian authorities have denied s
tate responsibility\, while their lack of\neffective cooperation has repea
tedly hindered efforts to establish the full\ntruth. At the same time\, su
ccessive Italian governments have been criticised by\nRegeni’s family and
human rights organisations for maintaining and strengthening\ndiplomatic\,
economic\, and military relations with Egypt despite the lack of\nsubstan
tial progress in the case. Italy recalled its ambassador from Cairo in\n20
16\, but restored full diplomatic representation the following year.\n\nTe
n years after Giulio’s death\, his story therefore remains not only a dema
nd\nfor truth and justice for him and his family but also a wider question
of human\nrights\, state accountability\, and the fight against impunity.
Keeping attention\nfocused on his case means insisting that political\, d
iplomatic\, and economic\ninterests should never take precedence over the
	search for truth and justice.
