SUMMARY:Girls to the Front | POMME-GRENADE
DTSTAMP:20261029T022629Z
DTSTART:20261121T183000Z
DESCRIPTION:Muziek\n\nPOMME-GRENADE is a riot grrrl punk band from Nijmegen
with a clear message. They\ntake a stand against sexism\, racism and xeno
phobia\, and stand for feminism and\nequality. Every day brings fresh remi
nders of how discrimination and violence\ncontinue to plague society. POMM
E-GRENADE gives that frustration and emotion a\nvoice\, combining raw ener
gy with sharp lyrics. Confrontational yet unifying.\n\nThe band embraces v
ulnerability alongside anger\, and melody alongside chaos.\nThis contrast
is reflected in the name POMME-GRENADE\, which captures their\nstyle: swee
t and sour\, gentle yet explosive. This duality comes to life in their\nli
ve shows\, where they draw the audience in and make them part of the\nexpe
rience.\n\nThe band consists of lead vocalist Mariana Mattijssen-Meulman\,
bassist Jasmijn\nSchaars\, guitarist Alwin Snoeijer and drummer Eric Timm
er.\n\nThis year\, Warming Up Festival is not asking how you can live more
sustainably.\nIt is asking why so many people\, especially young people\,
have tuned out of a\nconversation that may affect them more than anyone.\
n\nNot out of indifference\, but because of mental exhaustion. Because of
climate\nanxiety and guilt. Because of a system that places the emphasis o
n individual\nresponsibility\, while the biggest polluters and fossil fuel
subsidies largely\nremain out of the spotlight. And sometimes also becaus
e a climate movement that\nseems to demand perfection rather than particip
ation.\n\nYou can’t save the world alone. Fortunately\, you don’t have to.
Warming Up\nFestival therefore takes a different approach: solidarity ins
tead of penance.\n\nFor three days\, the festival brings together art\, jo
urnalism\, music and\nconversation around the question of how individual c
hoices relate to systems\nthat are largely beyond our control\, and where
we can actually make a difference\nas a collective. It is a festival that
makes room for imperfection\, for doubt\nand for new forms of engagement.\
n\nMore information and the complete program can be found here\n[https://t
olhuistuin.nl/specials/warming-up-festival].\n\nGirls to the Front is a Ut
recht-based initiative focused on the representation\nof FLINTA people in
the Dutch punk music scene. It began as an event on 8 March\nat dB's\, org
anised by Bibi Fay Bannink\, an 18-year-old feminist punk fan with a\nplan
. It grew into Girls to the Front\, a compilation LP featuring 14 punk ban
ds\nwith FLINTA frontwomen\, released at EKKO on 8 March. This was followe
	d by a tour\nacross the Netherlands\, including shows at Paradiso\, VERA G
roningen\, Rotown and\nWilde Weide\, as well as a DJ set at Down The Rabbi
t Hole.\n\nGirls to the Front not only celebrates the diverse punk sounds
created by FLINTA\npeople making themselves heard across the country\, but
also seeks to explore the\nintersectional struggles and sources of inspir
ation people encounter\, whether\nthrough making zines or organising more
interdisciplinary events featuring\npoetry\, film discussions and panel ta
lks.\n\nGirls to the Front hopes to build a community of FLINTA people who
can mosh\ntogether without constantly having to guard themselves against
male dominance in\nspaces like these. Drawing inspiration from the Riot Gr
rrl movement\, the\ninitiative connects its legacy to contemporary issues
and struggles. Above all\,\nGirls to the Front wants to bring FLINTA peopl
e to the forefront and create\nspace for them to scream\, mosh together an
d celebrate their identities through\npunk\, both as a music genre and as
	a way of life.\n\nZonzij
