SUMMARY:Getting to Know the Kamayurá People Encounter with the Indigenous P
eoples of the Upper Xingu in the Amazon
DTSTAMP:20261104T233319Z
DTSTART:20261125T180000Z
DESCRIPTION:This is a good time to engage directly with Brazil’s indigenous
peoples.\nCountless indigenous communities are falling victim to persiste
nt acts of\nviolence at the hands of political opponents who refuse to acc
ept a government\nthat respects these traditions. Supporting and listening
to indigenous peoples\nis an ecological act: it is our role as a Western
society to begin listening\,\nlearning\, and acting as protectors of the p
lanet—something they have been doing\nfor thousands of years. Fortunately\
, the Kamayurá people live in an area that\nenjoys greater protection from
Brazilian authorities. Spending time with them\nand delving deeper into K
amayurá knowledge will also be a way for us to show\nsolidarity with other
indigenous peoples of Brazil and with ourselves\, since\nthere is only on
e planet. This is a good time to be in direct contact with\nBrazil’s indig
enous peoples. Countless indigenous communities are falling victim\nto per
sistent acts of violence perpetrated by farmers who are unwilling to\nacce
pt the defeat of the far-right candidate Flavio Bolsonaro. The ancient\nKa
maiurá art & culture The Kamayurá artists have travelled directly from the
\nAmazon rainforest to the Netherlands\, and will be at the Munganga Theat
re\nalongside the director\, curator\, artist and researcher Andreia Duart
e (founder\nand director of Outra Margem) to share the knowledge of this a
ncient culture\nthrough their stories\, which offer a worldview centred on
health and well-being.\nIn addition to the stories\, we will give a brief
musical performance\, which for\nthe Kamayurá is not ‘merely’ music\, but
rather the very foundation of their way\nof life. They are also accomplis
hed graphic artists\, and they express their\nartistic language through br
acelets and ornaments that we will bring along to\nsell. Taking part is a
real and effective way of keeping the forest standing. A\nOutra Margem is
a platform for art and thought that explores the power of art as\nan exper
ience and a force for social transformation.\nIts initiatives combine arti
stic creation\, curation and research\, with a focus\non challenging colon
ial structures\, inequalities and various forms of violence.\nSaberes do P
extrema\ndireita Flavio Bolsonaro.
A cultura milenar\nKamaiurá\
