DESCRIPTION:A NIGHT OF TOTAL MUSIC #2:: FRED FRITH\, TIM HODGKINSON & LIZ A
	LBEE (US/UK/DE) +\nLUKRAAK (MARCUS WÄRNHEIM & THOMAS JASPERS)\n\n\n– A DAZ
ZLING CELEBRATION OF THE UNEXPECTED – CONTEMPLATIVE AND ECSTATIC\, UNRULY\
nAND GLORIOUSLY ALIVE –\n\nFRED FRITH + TIM HODGKINSON + LIZ ALBEE (US/UK/
DE)\nA meeting of three outstanding improvisational musicians who understa
nd sound as\nan open territory. Guitar legend Fred Frith – co-founder of H
enry Cow and a\ndefining figure in experimental music since the 1970s – en
counters Tim\nHodgkinson\, a comrade from those radical early days and an
tireless explorer of\nimprovisation\, composition\, and sound anthropology
. Joining them is Liz Allbee\,\na Berlin-based trumpeter and sound artist
who transforms her instrument into a\nvibrating resonant body of breath\,
electronics\, and material experimentation. A\nfully improvised trialogue
	– raw\, poetic\, and unpredictable.\n\nThe combination of Frith‘s prepared
	 guitar/string work\, Hodgkinson‘s intense\nreed work/composition\, and Al
	bee‘s trumpet/electronics represents a high-level\nintersection of veteran
	 avant-garde and experimental improvisation.\n\nMulti-instrumentalist\, co
mposer\, and improviser Fred Frith has been making noise\nof one kind or a
nother for more than 50 years\, starting with the rock collective\nHenry C
ow\, which he co-founded with Tim Hodgkinson in 1968.\nFred is best known
as a pioneering electric guitarist and improviser\,\nsong-writer\, and com
poser for film\, dance and theater. Through bands like Art\nBears\, Massac
	re\, Skeleton Crew\, the Fred Frith Guitar Quartet\, Cosa Brava\, and\nnow
Fremakajo he has stayed close to his roots in rock and folk music while\n
branching out in many other directions.\nFred has performed works by and s
ometimes alongside composers Alvin Curran\,\nMeredith Monk\, Pauline Olive
	ros\, Terry Riley\, and Christian Wolff\; improvised\nwith Lotte Anker\, D
	erek Bailey\, Han Bennink\, Peter Brötzmann\, Lol Coxhill\, Janet\nFeder\,
	 gabby fluke-mogul\, Tim Hodgkinson\, Joëlle Léandre\, Phil Minton\, Ikue\
	nMori\, Butch Morris\, Bob Ostertag\, Evan Parker\, Zeena Parkins\, Paula
	Sanchez\,\nSusana Santos Silva and Camel Zekri\, to name a few\; and—as se
ssion\nmusician—recorded on albums by\, for example\, Brian Eno\, The Resi
	dents\, Robert\nWyatt\, The Swans\, Violent Femmes\, Material\, Negativlan
	d\, John Zorn\, Matthew and\nthe Unfortunates\, and Half Japanese.\nhttps:
	//www.fredfrith.com/live/ [https://www.fredfrith.com/live/]\n\nTim Hodgkin
	son (b. 1949) studied social anthropology at Cambridge\, and\nco-founded t
he politically and musically radical group HENRY COW with Fred Frith\nin 1
	968. In addition to composing\, he has a long involvement in improvisation
\,\nand came back to anthropology in the 1990’s with research into music a
nd\nshamanism in Siberia.\nAs an improvising musician on reeds and lap ste
el guitar Tim Hodgkinson has\nperformed all over the world with many of th
e most acclaimed artists in the\nfield\, and continues to be fully engaged
in the celebrated Konk Pack trio with\nRoger Turner and Thomas Lehn. In 2
009 he released KLARNT – a CD of solo clarinet\nimprovisations.\nhttp://ww
	w.timhodgkinson.co.uk/ [http://www.timhodgkinson.co.uk/]\n\nLiz Allbee is
a trumpet player who doesn’t play the trumpet all that often. Or\nat least
\, not the regular one. Instead\, she frequently opts for a quadrophonic\n
trumpet of her own design\, as well as her voice and a myriad of self-made
\nobjects. The case in point is her recent album Breath Vessels\, made usi
ng\nvarious glasses\, pots and dismantled second-hand instruments which pr
oduce a\nsurprisingly melodious drone.\nOften radical\, Allbee is also an
economic composer and improviser: prudent\nlayering of loops provides a sm
ooth passage towards trance. An uneasy one –\nsince Allbee’s inspiration c
omes from recent events like the sinking of the ship\nAdriana with hundred
s of migrants on board in 2023\, or from a withering\nobservation the prob
lems of our planet started when humans evolved opposable\nthumbs. A consol
ing one – since her work is conceived as new folk music\, driven\nnot by n
ostalgia but by a sense of community.\nhttps://lizallbee.net/ [https://liz
allbee.net/]\n\nLUKRAAK\nLukraak plays post-silly music of crooked beauty.
Using alto saxophone\, drums\,\nflutes\, found objects as well as their o
wn centered bodies and flying limbs\,\nthey produce something of their own
with a haphazard attitude. Intricate sonic\nmosaics and vivid tapestries
of complex sound masses are created along the edges\nof experimental jazz
and neo-neo-dada-dada.\n\nLukraak has previously performed at Porta-Jazz F
estival and Valkhof Festival\, as\nwell as at venues in the Netherlands\,
	Germany\, Sweden\, Denmark\, Belgium\, France\,\nPoland and the Baltics. T
hey are individually and collectively active members of\nthe vibrant exper
imental music scene of Amsterdam\, and together with Jaap Blonk\nthey perf
orm as Luk&BlonkRaak. On 26th of September 2025 their debut album\n‘Zaalig
’ was released on LukRecords.\n\nMarcus Wärnheim – alto saxophone\, record
ers and other stuff\nThomas Jaspers – drums\, cymbals\, recorders and othe
