	n with the Palestinian Film Festival Amsterdam\, we’re screening the\nsear
	ing new film by Palestinian director Annemarie Jacir\, Palestine 36. Set i
	n\nBritish-ruled Palestine in 1936\, it follows a young man caught between
	 his\nvillage and a restless Jerusalem as the country rises up in the Grea
	t Revolt —\nthe largest and longest Palestinian uprising against British c
	olonial rule.\n\nAs villages organise and strike\, the British answer with
	 collective punishment\,\nhome demolitions and mass detention without tria
	l\, laying down the machinery of\noccupation that shapes Palestinian life 
	to this day. Rejecting the distance of\nthe history book\, Jacir draws a d
	irect line from 1936 to the present — to the\npartition of Palestinian lan
	d\, and to the system that now sustains an ongoing\ngenocide in Gaza.\n\nT
	he screening will open with an introduction from Özge Calafato\, writer\,\
	ncurator\, academic\, and advisor to the Palestinian Film Festival Amsterd
	am.\n\nAbout the speaker\n\nÖzge Calafato is a writer\, curator\, and acad
	emic\, and a Lecturer in Literary and\nCultural Analysis at the University
	 of Amsterdam (UvA). She has served as\nProgramming Manager for the Abu Dh
	abi Film Festival (ADFF) and as a committee\nmember for the SANAD Developm
	ent and Post-Production Fund. From 2014 to 2020\,\nshe was Assistant Direc
	tor of Akkasah: Center for Photography at NYU Abu Dhabi.\nCalafato has als
	o worked as a programmer and consultant for numerous film\nfestivals and i
	nstitutions. Since 2024\, she has been an advisor to the\nPalestinian Film
	 Festival Amsterdam.
