DESCRIPTION:Why public values\, not parental controls\, should shape how ki
ds grow up online.\n\nChildren aged 8 –15 are growing up inside platforms
designed for adult attention\nmarkets\, increasingly shaped by AI systems
that personalise\, persuade and\nprofile. The dominant industry response h
as been surveillance: parental\ncontrols\, monitoring apps and screen-time
blockers. But filtering a child’s\ninternet is not the same as preparing
a child for it. Three shifts make this\nconversation urgent: (1) AI is rap
idly changing what children encounter online\,\nfrom synthetic media to al
gorithmic peer dynamics\; (2) commercial design logic\nincreasingly diverg
es from what is good for children’s development\; and (3) the\npublic deba
te has narrowed to “how do we restrict?” instead of “how do we\nequip?”. T
	his evening\, we bring researchers\, educators\, parents\, and builders\nt
ogether for an honest dialogue about digital childhood. We will discuss wh
at\nthe latest research reveals about the real risks and opportunities chi
	ldren face\nonline\, reflect on which public values\, agency\, judgment\,
care\, inclusivity\,\nshould shape how kids learn to navigate digital life
	\; and offer a hopeful\nperspective by zooming in on tangible\, skills-fir
st alternatives being tested in\nthe Netherlands and beyond.\n\nThis event
can only be attended physically at our studio. The recordings will be\nma
de available later on and can be viewed via dezwijger.nl/terugkijken\n[htt
