DESCRIPTION:On 1 November 2026 from 15:00-16:00\, as part of the opening we
ekend of Life\nAfter Love: In Search of the Militant Image\, curators Hera
Chan and Edwin Nasr\nlead a guided tour of the exhibition. Life After Lov
e surveys how the visual\ngrammar of militancy has shifted across the glob
al uprisings of the past decade.\nIt traces resonances between struggles t
hat have unfolded from Hong Kong to\nBeirut\, and from Yangon to Jenin\, b
	ringing together artists\, cultural workers\nand community organisers.Prog

nts/111713620].\n\nLife After Love asks what the changing forms of politic
al struggle reveal about\nthe changing forms of image-making. If the milit
ant image of the twentieth\ncentury emerged alongside mass party politics\
, anti-colonial liberation\nmovements and the project of revolutionary cin
ema\, what becomes of that\ntradition within a conjuncture shaped by digit
al platforms\, algorithmic\ncirculation and decentralised forms of politic
al organising?\n\nThe exhibition approaches the militant image as a histor
ical category\, which has\nalways depended upon particular forms of mediat
ion. Earlier traditions of\nmilitant image-making were sustained by format
ions capable of producing and\ncirculating images in the name of a collect
ive political subject. Their\nambitions were inseparable from the infrastr
uctures through which they moved and\nthe revolutionary horizons they soug
ht to cultivate.\n\nContemporary uprisings unfold under markedly different
terms. Images now\ncirculate across encrypted messaging applications\, so
cial media feeds and\ninformal digital networks whose logics reshape our v
isibility and attention.\nOften produced by those embedded within the even
ts themselves\, they move rapidly\nbetween testimony\, tactical communicat
ion and affective expression. Their\naesthetic form bears the imprint of t
he political moment from which they emerge:\nanonymity\, spontaneity and o
pacity become qualities inscribed within the images.\n\nRather than asking
whether the militant image survives in the present\, Life\nAfter Love ask
s how its political function has been transformed\, and what this\ntransfo
rmation discloses about the actuality of struggle. The works assembled\nhe
re reflect upon the conditions through which images are produced\, circula
ted\,\nappropriated and contested. Many emerge from practices situated alo
ngside\npolitical organising\, mutual aid and community work\, where cultu
ral production\nunfolds in close proximity to lived struggle and the imper
ative of\ninternationalist solidarity. Taken together\, they invite viewer
s to consider the\nmilitant image in the present tense and the forms throu
	gh which emancipatory\nfutures become thinkable.\n\nInfo & Credits\n\nThis
event is in English. Admission is free\, pay what you can. Do you also th
