SUMMARY:Culturele Noordspelen: Art wall Exhibition
DTSTAMP:20260813T194818Z
DTSTART:20260814T220000Z
DESCRIPTION:The Cultural Noordspelen art wall is a work of art created by c
hildren from\nAmsterdam in collaboration with the Spin Foundation. As ‘Ent
ree van Noord’\, the\nchildren created their own artwork and are giving it
back to the neighbourhood:\na colourful entrance\, conceived and created
by the children themselves.\n\nCultural Noordspelen: Claim your spot on th
e Tolhuistuin wall!\nHave the children from Amsterdam-Noord claimed their
spot? You bet! The\n30.5-metre-long wall at the Tolhuistuin has been trans
formed into a gigantic\,\ncolourful work of art. It has become a wonderful
window into the world of the\nlocal children.\n\nThe story behind the pro
ject.\nFor six Thursdays\, the Spin Foundation and the Wijsneus team set o
ut to explore\,\ntogether with the children\, what Amsterdam-Noord means t
o them.\nThe children shared all sorts of things: from football pitches\,
	windmills\, trees\nand bicycles to imaginary swimming pools\, herons\, rat
s and monsters with three\ncrosses for eyes. Some lovely conversations too
k place\, hidden talents came to\nlight and new friendships were formed.\n
Then it was time for the real work: painting the wall of the Tolhuistuin.
On the\nFridays of the Culturele Noordspelen\, children worked on a large
collaborative\nmural measuring no less than 30 metres in length. On that w
all\, they show who\nthey are\, what matters to them and how they view the
ir neighbourhood and Noord.\n\nThis year’s theme is ‘Claim Your Space’: Ta
king up space\, expressing yourself\nand discovering that your ideas matte
	r. This project gives children the space –\nboth literally and figurativel
y – to be seen. At the same time\, children from\ndifferent neighbourhoods
meet one another\, work together on something big and\nrealise that their
ideas matter. This is exactly what the Culturele Noordspelen\nare all abo
ut: playing\, being yourself\, meeting others and engaging creatively\nwit
h culture together.\n\nCome by and enjoy!\nAre you curious about all the s
tories\, monsters and bikes on the wall? You can\nadmire the artwork for f
ree! Do pop along and see for yourself how the children\nhave made their m
ark on Amsterdam-Noord.\n\nInspirational quotes from our young artists:\n\
	n“I painted a duck\, because I have lots of little ducks”\n\nWhen I asked
Kim if she’d like to help with the design\, she said no. She came\nback to
me later: “When I said no\, I was just joking"\n\n“Did you know that in t
he Molenwijk\, the blocks of flats were built in the shape\nof windmill sa
ils\, and that all the street names are related to windmills?”\n\nThree fr
iends joined us to design. Unfortunately\, their fourth friend\, Jace\,\nc
ouldn’t come along. He’d drawn a lovely picture of his office chair\; his\
nfavourite spot in Noord is his room. Jace’s friends painted his room and
office\nchair on the wall.\n\n“Noord is so lovely because it’s green and p
eaceful” – Lots of beautiful trees\nwere painted on the wall.\n\nThe wall
itself is located at the 'gateway to Amsterdam Noord'\, opposite the\nBuik
sloterwegveer bus station.\n\nWhat are we all doing this for?\n\nThat beca
me clear last Friday when we took 13-year-old Gideon home. This lovely\,\n
slightly shy pre-teen summed up the whole experience beautifully: “I’ve ha
d a\nreally lovely day.” And that’s exactly what makes this project a grea
	t success.\n\nCultural Noordspelen | Claim your place!\nThis summer\, Tolh
uistuin will be transformed into a place where children can\ncreate\, move
\, play and discover. During the Cultural Noordspelen\, we invite\nchildre
n to claim their place: on stage\, in the garden\, in a story\, in music o
	r\nthrough movement.\n\nFrom 3 July to 16 August\, a free programme took p
lace every Friday\, Saturday and\nSunday for children aged 4 to 14. Friday
s focused on painting and dance\, theatre\non Saturday and music on Sunday
. On Sunday morning\, there was also a\nstory-telling and craft programme
for young children.\n\nThe Culturele Noordspelen were made possible in par
t by contributions from the\nZadelhoff Culture Fund\, the City of Amsterda
m\, the Noord District\, the Amsterdam\nFund for the Arts and the A’DAM To
	wer Foundation.\n\nTuin
