DESCRIPTION:Line up: Gérard Depardieu. Nicole Garcia\, Roger Pierre\nOpen:
	19:30 - 22:00 hrs\nTickets: € 3\n\nMON ONCLE D'AMERIQUE 1980\nDirected by
Alain Resnais\n125 minutes\nIn French with English subtitles\n\nHere we ha
ve a movie that seems to be 'normal' - in the sense that it has a\nstory.
But as with many films by Alain Resnais (Last Year in Marienbad)\, what is
\nexperimental is the wild approach to the story. Where most movies use pl
ots to\nsuck the audience into some fictional world\, here the plot is bei
ng used to\nillustrate the theories of a behavioral theorist - Henri Labor
	it\, author of\nDecoding the human message.\n\nMon oncle d'Amerique focuse
s on the interactions of three main protagonists\; an\nactress\, a writer
and a factory manager (Gérard Depardieu). As we follow their\nlives\, the
film keeps cutting away to professor Laborit explaining his theories\nin r
elation to the story. The result is absurd\, but also insightful. What cou
ld\nbe dry and stuffy becomes\, in the hands of Resnais\, totally engaging
	 - charged\nwith a good dose of irony and surreal humor. In fact\, in the
end\, this flick\nmakes clear how boring and dull most movies are\, becaus
e so many directors are\ncaught in a trap of simply imitating others. This
one is absolutely unique.\n\nThe laboratory tests and theories of Henri L
aborit revolve largely around how we\nhandle stress in relation to society
. And for me that also makes the movie more\ndamn relevant than ever - bec
ause I have never seen the world in more stressful\ntimes than today. Anot
her great thing about this crazy film\, whether you buy the\ntheories or n
ot\, is how it helps us to back away and look at our lives within a\nconte
xt... not to simply follow our feelings per se\, but to always step back a
nd\nsee the entire picture. Some people have even compared this flick to a
Greek\ntragedy\, which illustrates human behavior. Take this outrageous p
remise for a\nmovie\, add some snappy and creative editing\, a wicked sens
	e of humor\, and a\nmulti-layered thought-provoking script\, and you have
one of the most original\nfilms in cinema history. (As pointed out in Gill
es Deleuze's book Cinéma 2:\nl'image-temps).\n\nOpen Door: 19:30\nFilm Sta
