This silent experimental film was\nmade by Garrel in his 20s when working with the radical French collective known \nas the Zanzibar Group\, of which Garrel became the figurehead. Shot duri ng the\nMay of 1968\, at the height of the protests that swept through Fra nce\, the film\ndepicts a couple and their child flee in the face of an un known\, but still\nconsiderable menace. Immersed in the desolate landscape s of the German Black\nForest\, shot on a beautiful 35mm high-contrast bla ck and white film\, the film\nrecalls images of a never-revealed war to de pict a conflict of generations: as\nthe adults try to find a new balance i n a post-conflict setting\, the child\nrevolts against the nuclear family\ , ultimately finding freedom in solitude.\n\nThe film’s oneiric and distur bing qualities\, perfectly match Sasha Sykes’\nimprovised dreamy soundscap es. We are very happy to announce that Cavia in Concert is back to the amazing hall of the Nassaukerk for another uniq ue music performance, brought to you by Filmhuis Cavia in collaboration wi th Podium Nassau. 

We start the new season by bringing to you the iconic Le Révélateur by French New Wave affiliated di rector Philippe Garrel. This silent experimental film was made by Garrel i n his 20s when working with the radical French collective known as the Zan zibar Group, of which Garrel became the figurehead. Shot during the May of 1968, at the height of the protests that swept through France, the film d epicts a couple and their child flee in the face of an unknown, but still considerable menace. Immersed in the desolate landscapes of the German Bla ck Forest, shot on a beautiful 35mm high-contrast black and white film, th e film recalls images of a never-revealed war to depict a conflict of gene rations: as the adults try to find a new balance in a post-conflict settin g, the child revolts against the nuclear family, ultimately finding freedo m in solitude.

The film’s oneiric and disturbing qualities, perfect ly match Sasha Sykes’ improvised dreamy soundscapes. Comb ining modular synthesis, vocals, and effects, she creates an immersive sho w based on intuitive sonic exploration through improvisation. With a fasci nation for the shaping of frequencies and sonic textures, each performance is an invitation into her musical imaginary of immersive soundscapes born from dialogues held between the performer and the sound source.
