DESCRIPTION:Applying a feminist perspective to climate justice in the islan
d nations within\nthe Kingdom of the Netherlands.\n\nChanging weather patt
erns and rising sea levels caused by the climate crisis are\nthreatening t
he very existence of islands across the globe. These impacts are\nalso fel
t on the island nations of the Dutch Kingdom. Earlier this year\, judges\n
in The Hague sided with the residents of Bonaire and Greenpeace in a landm
ark\ncase against the Dutch government\, which argued for the fair protect
ion of the\nislanders against the impacts of the climate crisis. Still\, l
ittle attention is\nbeing paid to the differences among the island communi
ties. Women worldwide are\ndisproportionately affected by the climate cris
is. Yet\, the voices of these\nwomen are rarely considered when it comes t
o decision-making processes around\nclimate action. In the lead up to the
annual UN climate summit\, we will discuss\ncritical feminist perspectives
on the climate crisis\, specifically in relation\nto the Caribbean island
	s. What does a feminist perspective on climate justice in\nthe islands loo
k like? Why is it important to use a gendered lens when talking\nabout cli
mate justice? And how can Dutch MP’s insert these perspectives into the\nc
onversations held at the annual UN climate summit in Antalya this November
?\n\nAt 19.00 the participants of the Feminist Climate Academy will presen
t a\npre-programme in which they will exhibit several actions that they’re
organising\nto spread awareness and advocate for feminist climate justice
.\n\nTogether with Lysanne Charles PhD Political Anthropology focusing on

nvestigates the social and political dimensions of climate\njustice in the
Caribbean. Her research on Bonaire highlights how marginalised\ncommuniti

emphasizing the need for equitable policies that center local knowledge an
d\nautonomy in climate adaptation.\n\nRiddhi Samtani is a leader in fighti

and wants to understand how climate change\naffects small islands like her
	s. Riddhi is a global advocate\, speaking up for\nclimate action at confer
ences like COP\, and she combines research and hands-on\nexperience to tac
kle climate issues in the Caribbean. Currently\, she works as a\npolicy ad

emy\n\nThe Feminist Climate Academy is a free learning program for young p
eople who\nwant to take action for a better world. It brings together femi
nism\, human\nrights\, and climate justice\, recognizing that the impacts
of the climate crisis\nare not equally distributed. The young participants
take part in lectures\,\ndiscussions\, and workshops where they learn abo
ut climate justice. They engage\nwith inspiring activists and lobbyists fr
om around the world\, who work to shape\nclimate transitions based on femi

ifferent action groups and develop their own\ncampaigns – lobbying politic
