DESCRIPTION:Slamming Doors: Falling Out and Fighting Back in a Housing Cris
is is a new\npublication that brings together writers\, academics and comm
unity organisers to\nreflect on housing justice\, community organising and
feminist labour. On 23\nApril 2026\, Framer Framed hosts initiators and c
o-editors Winnie Herbstein and\nMason Leaver-Yap for a conversation on the
book’s themes and development.\n\nCo-published by Framer Framed and Unive
rsity of Edinburgh\, the book brings\ntogether writers\, academics and com
munity organisers to address a pressing\nissue: the ongoing housing crisis
in Glasgow. Although centred on a specific\nlocale\, the topic resonates
on a global scale\, indicating the housing crisis as\na symptom of oppress
ive capitalist conditions and emphasising the critical role\nof community
and solidarity in navigating them.\n\nActing as a ‘user’s manual’\, Slammi
ng Doors mobilises text and images\, archives\nand conversations to unpack
the work of DIY learning\, grassroots organising and\nhow to record\, dis
seminate and learn from collective struggles. It explores\nhousing struggl
es\, community organising\, and reproductive labour in Glasgow\,\nhighligh
ting how we document and share these stories. Additionally\, it reflects\n
ongoing relationships with communities and spaces of solidarity. Writers\,
\nacademics\, and activists were invited to contribute\, pairing their tex
ts with\narchival imagery that has been instrumental in the research of th
ese films.\n\nWinnie Herbstein graduated from Glasgow School of Art (Envir
onmental Art). She\nstudied Women in Construction at the City of Glasgow C
	ollege and is a founding\nmember of Slaghammers\, a woman\, trans and non-
binary metal workshop. Her work\nfocuses on historical and contemporary fo
rms of organising\, in relation to\nhousing and the architecture and forma
tion of space. She was a resident at the\nRijksakademie\, Amsterdam (2021-
2023).\n\nInfo\n\nSlamming Doors: Falling Out and Fighting Back in a Housi
