DESCRIPTION:Join on 21 June 2026 for the final publication launch of the Op
en Archief\nresidency project with researcher Wassila Abboud\, who’s joine
	d by contributor\nFrançoise Vergès.\n\nDeveloped through Open Archief 4.0\
	, Abboud’s publication\, A History that Never\nArrived – Mediations on the
Liminalities of Mahdi Amel\, engages with the archive\nof Lebanese Marxis
t philosopher Mahdi Amel\, exploring how revolutionary\nhistories continue
to shape political realities in the present.\n\nDrawing on her research\,
	 Françoise Vergès\n[https://framerframed.nl/mensen/francoise-verges/] refl
ects on the histories of\ncommunism and internationalist movements across
the Global South during the 40’s\nto 80’s\, tracing unexpected connections
between anti-colonial struggles that\nemerged across different geographie
	s. She also addresses how colonial techniques\nof governance\, surveillanc
e and social control were tested and developed in\nplaces such as her home
of Réunion\, and were later used within the French\nmetropole\, revealing
the circulation of colonial power.\n\nThe conversation explores questions
central to both Abboud and Verges’ work: how\nrevolutionary and decolonia
l movements experience defeat and setback\; how state\nrepression\, libera
l integration and anti-communism shaped the trajectories of\nanti-colonial
struggles\; and what forms of domination continue to saturate our\ncontem
porary life. Vergès draws on her own familial history growing up in\nRéuni
on and Algeria\, within a communist social context. Both Abboud and Verges
\nthink through what these unfinished struggles can teach us about the pre
	sent.\n\nProgramme\n\n15:00 Doors Open\n15:10 Introduction\n15:30 Presenta

s on the Liminalities of Mahdi Amel\nWassila Abboud devoted herself to tra
	nscribing\, translating and reactivating the\nrare twenty-minute recording
of the 1987 lecture Culture and Revolution الثقافة\nوالثورة by the Lebane
se Marxist philosopher Mahdi Amel. As part of the Open\nArchief residency
	project\, Abboud uses this archival material\, not as a\nreflection of a p
eriod in history but instead of a political condition (‘of\npermanent revo
lution’) that remains unresolved.\n\nOpen Archief\n\nOpen Archief is made
possible by the support of its founding members Beeld &\nGeluid and Nieuwe
