DESCRIPTION:This vibrant documentary tells the extraordinary adventure stor
y of artist and\nfree spirit August Dirks and his ship of fools\, Azart\,
The Ship of Fools.\n\nFor more than 30 years\, August sailed the world wit
h his absurdist theatre\nproject. Throughout that time\, he lived aboard t
his floating work of art with an\never-changing crew. He transformed an ol
	d fishing vessel into a ship designed to\nmeet other cultures\, exchange i
deas\, and above all\, have fun. As August himself\nput it: “I wanted to r
ig up a ship of fools and sail around the world singing\nthe praises of fo
lly.” He also drew inspiration from old carnival traditions.\nAfter all\,
the wheeled boat or wagon ship is the most joyful float in the\ncarnival p
arade!\n\nThe ship hardly looked seaworthy\, and in truth August was not a
particularly\nskilled sailor. It is more a matter of luck than wisdom tha
t everything always\nworked out.\n\nThe crew followed the old VOC route\,
this time not to conquer and exploit\, but\nto share\, play\, and connect.
In countless ports they sought genuine encounters\nwith local communities
.\n\nHalfway through the journey\, near Ecuador\, disaster struck and inte
rrupted the\nvoyage\, forcing the ship to set course for its final and spe
ctacular resting\nplace. A hopeful true story about the art of navigating
between ambition\, dreams\nand setbacks while living an adventurous life.
And all of it told with a healthy\ndose of humour.\n\n“Hoe mooi het leven
