DESCRIPTION:This afternoon is spoken in Dutch.\n\nIn the fourth edition of
the ABC\, Emily Kocken will be in conversation with\nDorien de Wit. She wo
rks as a writer and artist at the intersection of image\,\nlanguage\, and
	perception. Her work includes text\, drawings\, installations\, and\n(audi
	o) walks. Her poetry debut Eindig de dag nooit met een vraag (De\nArbeider
spers) was awarded the Poetry Debut Prize (2022).\n\nFresh off the press i
s heim\, or the story of my dizziness\, a hybrid book and a\npersonal expl
oration of the relationship between anxiety and travel\, between\nlanguage
and a sense of home\, and of what a wavering body has to say. What came\n
first\, the anxiety or the dizziness? Dorien de Wit delves into memories\,
\ncalculates the distance to the spacecraft Pioneer 10\, swims in icy wate
r\,\ntravels via Street View\, follows Alice down the rabbit hole\, and ex
plores the\nvestibular system. In clear\, poetic language she weaves all o
f this together to\nunderstand her anxiety and ultimately set out on a jou
rney.\n\nThis is the prose debut of a poet\, on the border between memoir\
, essay\, and\npoetry. In the conversation\, which will be accompanied liv
e by cellist Maya\nFridmann\, we follow Dorien in ever smaller circles aro
und the contours of her\nanxiety\, testing and gently stretching its limit
	s. She will also read poems and\nfragments from both books\, and we will d
iscover how her visual and literary\npractices relate to each other and\,
in a surprising way\, throw each other off\nbalance.
