In people\,\nanimals\, trees\, flowers\ , light and water. It blooms and withers\, grows and\nbreaks down\, germin ates and decays. Everything is constantly moving between\ncoming into bein g and disappearing. Yet we humans have increasingly distanced\nourselves f rom this natural cycle. We would rather talk about life than about\ndying\ , and would rather look away from what happens to a body after someone has \ndied. What do we actually know about dying? Or about a dead body? About what\nhappens underground after we are buried? Which little creatures help us on our\nway towards becoming part of a greater whole\, and where do th ey come from? This\nseries of evenings is not a search for answers\, but a space for questions and\nchange. For different ways of looking. Because p erhaps\, precisely where\nsomething ends\, another story begins.\n\n\nON T HE PROGRAMME:\n\n * Marijn Bax\, a Ceuvel resident\, explores the physical relationship between\n humans and space through her work as a photograp her and artist. Her current\n focus is on our relationship with the soil . Starting from the question of how\n our bodies become part of the ecos ystem after death\, she invites us to\n reconsider the position we take for granted as humans. A preview of the\n collaborative video work that Marijn and Susanne Duijvestein created this\n summer during a mini-resid ency at Huis te Vraag will serve as the starting\n point for the evening .\n \n * Susanne Duijvestein\, ritual designer\, educator and facilitato r in processes\n of saying goodbye\, and founder of Stichting Veraarden. \n \n * Thijs de Zeeuw is Speaker for the Living for De Ceuvel’s Zoöp. H e is also a\n landscape architect and NatureOptimist\, designing for the more-than-human\n world at places including ARTIS. In his work\, he tri es to make space for\n other perspectives: what does the world look like when\, instead of humans\,\n another animal becomes the starting point? Or when\, within a Zoöp\, you\n represent not the Living but the Dead?\ n \n * Hermen van de Waal\, also a Ceuvel resident\, photographer and fi lmmaker\, and\n affiliated with the Bee Foundation\, will recite a poem about fungi.\n \n * Sieto Noordhoorn is a graphic designer who likes to work at the intersection\n of art\, society and ecology. Through his wor k\, he challenges us to look\n differently at how we relate to the syste ms we are part of. He will close the\n evening with a workshop. We will print the tiny organisms that help decompose\n our bodies after death on to the old T-shirts we have brought with us.
