DESCRIPTION:Africa Is the Present presents paintings and installations by c
ontemporary\nAfrican artists living and working in the Netherlands\, in co
nstellation with\nmasks and sculptures connected to traditions and forms o
f African spirituality.\nSome objects are ritualistic\, others aesthetic.
The provenance of some is known\,\nwhile others have been partly eaten awa
y by worms and termites.\n\nTogether\, the participating artists arrange t
he space and explore how\, through a\nconstellation of contemporary art an
d heritage\, visitors can engage with\nperspectives on African philosophy.
Visitors are also invited to take part in\nthis exchange by sharing any k
nowledge they may have about the objects on\ndisplay.\n\nHow can we contri
bute to a pan-African dialogue about identity?\n\nWhat happens to the mean
ing and experience of a sculpture when it is placed in a\ndifferent cultur
al context? And how do we shape the interactions that emerge as\na result?
\n\nThe exhibition is organised by Stichting De Overlevering\, in collabor
	ation with\,\namong others\, Daniel Dansou Hotegni\, Michael Katundu\, Joh
n Kayongo and Joyful\nEvents Company. With contributions from Benin by Pat
ricorel (Patrick Bessan) and\nMakef Enagnon.\n\nDuring the opening weekend
